European roulette

A wheel of 37 pockets, 0 to 36, with a single zero. You lay your chips on the layout, the server spins the ball, and every winning bet is paid by how many numbers it covers.

The wheel and the layout

Numbers 1 to 36 are red or black, zero is green. On the wheel they are not in order: they alternate red and black, odd and even, low and high, so that every sector mixes the chances.

On the layout, the numbers are set out three to a row over twelve rows, with zero at the top. That grid is what gives the splits, streets, corners and six lines.

Bets and pays

A winning bet is paid by the numbers it covers, and you keep your stake. A €1 straight-up bet that comes in wins €35, plus the chip you bet.

Announced bets

The French table’s announced bets cover a whole sector of the wheel. The table lays them for you, with the chip you picked, as ordinary bets.

  • Voisins du zéro: the 17 numbers around zero, from 22 to 25, with 9 chips. Two on the 0, 2, 3 street, two on the 25, 26, 28, 29 corner, and one on each of the splits 4/7, 12/15, 18/21, 19/22 and 32/35.
  • Tiers du cylindre: the 12 numbers opposite, from 27 to 33, with 6 chips on the splits 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30 and 33/36.
  • Orphelins: the 8 numbers left, with 5 chips. One straight up on 1 and splits on 6/9, 14/17, 17/20 and 31/34.
  • Jeu zéro: the 7 numbers closest to zero, with 4 chips. Splits on 0/3, 12/15 and 32/35, and one straight up on 26.
  • Neighbours: with the Neighbours option on, a click on a number bets it straight up with the two numbers on each side of it on the wheel, five chips in all.

How a spin goes

  1. You bet

Pick a chip and lay it on the layout: on a number, on the line between two numbers, at the end of a row, where four numbers meet, or on a column, a dozen or an even chance.

  2. The ball is spun

The server draws the winning number and records it. The wheel and the ball only show it.

  3. Winning bets are paid

Every bet covering the number is paid, the others lose. Your bets stay on the layout from one spin to the next until you take them off.

Limits

A spin takes €1 to €5,000 in all. A straight-up bet takes up to €100, and every bet up to that amount times the numbers it covers: €1,000 at most on a column or a dozen, €1,000 on an even chance.

Return to player

Zero is the house’s edge: it comes up once in 37 spins and pays only the bets that cover it. Over the long run every bet returns 97.30% of the money bet.

Every number is drawn by the server with the operating system’s cryptographic random generator. Spins are independent: no streak and no “due” number has any effect on the next one.
